On Tuesday, December 23, 2008 I get to Billy's Poker Room at Bally's AC about 2:30 pm. Does not appear to be real busy. The 1 pm tourney is running with 4 tables. Almost immediately I get a seat at the 2/4 Limit table. There are two or three empty seats at the table. A few hands are played and about 3 pm there is all this screaming and jumping up and down at a table behind me (near the cage). Like a swarm of locust, the words "Bad Beat" are every place. And, sure enough, a Bad Beat had been hit. Four queens beat four sixes!
I had noticed that the Bad Beat Jackpot was $122,000+ when I arrived. The loosing hand (4 sixes) got $35,000+. The winner (4 queens) got $22,000+ (it was also her birthday).
The rest of us in the room split the other 50% to the tune of $1,089.34 (that's the only number I'm sure of!). Not bad for a quick trip to Billy's.
Because of the Bad Beat we didn't really play too much poker. What I did play was OK, picking up about $75 between all the shouting.
My favorite hand of the day was 8h 9h. An 8 and a heart came on the flop. Turn was nothing and another 8 on the river. I had continued to push and won a nice pot. There was a guy at the other end of the table who was rather annoyed with my 3rd 8 on the river and began to explain to everyone why I should not have won the pot etc. I told him that if he doesn't like river cards he should fold early in the hand. Doubt he liked that.
Obviously a really good day in AC!
